vacation dreaming.

vacation dreaming.
to quote my son: oh my dear! t’is the time of year where all i want to do is run away to a warmer climate. considering it has been in the mid 70’s this week, this is really saying something. winter has me down low, dudes. so i’m just going to pretend like i am a woman of means, one with zero fuqs and a million buqs to give to swanky boutique hotels, where i would spend my mornings in the bonkers beautiful dining room drinking mimosas and my afternoons sleeping them off by the pool. here are the items (just a few basix) i would like to take along with me on my journey to sunshiny bliss.
  1. in the land of fancy vacationers jacquemus is king. this fully enormous, aptly named Le Chapeau Bomba straw hat is the total most fabulous. the zara version is here, and here is a more affordable, v jacquemus version from asos.
  2. obviously a swimsuit is crucial, and luckily i just so happen to be a swimsuit fanatic. my favorites this year (so far) are: this tie shoulder one piece from j.crew(i’m partial to the white one), this crazy extra super cute clementine bikini by samantha pleet, this electric lime (major color this year) one piece from asos, and this leopard print one piece (because leopard print has become chic- not tacky- again. until further notice). additionally both the one piece & two piece versions of this bae by a detacher are full on amaze. pardon my rhymes.
  3. for day wear these ganni satin fringe shorts over a swimsuit are 100% it. also this little mara hoffman leaf print romper, this gingham caron callahan dress, and this mara hoffman rainbow print one shoulder dress are el perfecto.
  4. for a night out this isa arfen dress forever has my heart, and this ganni net dress will allow you to still show off your swimsuit whilst being v v fancy.
  5. for shoes: castaner espadrilles, chloe clogs, and these little target red & white slides.
  6. also of course a pair of shades (celine ones or the h&m knockoffs).
  7. a net bag.
  8. the perfect red lipstick (which does not need re-applying).
  9. fancy sunscreen & aloe.
  10. and assorted velvet scrunchies.

the end. meet me in paradise and save me a pina colada?

february covet.
february! january is over! hallelujah amen we survived. i could not be happier to see it go, it was one crappy way to start a year. but i learned some lessons. did some big time mothering. organized the heck out of my house. got a lot done despite being up to my elbows in toddler snot; sweat; puke and tears. i’m ready for a few days of sunshine and a sunnier outlook. and also valentine’s day- my favorite holiday. here’s my list for all you sweethearts out there.
  1. first up is a v v romantic record by ornette coleman. my valentine is all about the free jazz.
  2. have you heard about this new trend of smushing your face with a rock? only costs you $45. i want to try it. obviously.
  3. i am trying to talk myself into investing in this ultimate perfection celine sweater. still tripping on the price tag. but holy wow, it’s one for the ages.
  4. if you have a tiny waist, these extra adorable creatures of comfort pink velvet maison pants are over on the real real for only $50 (+20% off!!). please buy them.
  5. i find this little satin slip dress by raey heavenly. to be worn over a turtleneck or under that oversized celine sweater. feels really necessary.
  6. these stiletto sock booties at target are the best balenciaga knife bootie knockoffs out there. they capture the magic sauce of them: just the right heel height to be wearable and balance out the pointy toe so that your feet don’t look like giant skis.
  7. these fancy miu miu rain booties kill me. if it’s gonna rain, might as well look FIERCE in your rain gear.
  8. speaking of fierce, i can’t stop thinking about these ganni boots which have been seen on every fashion girl‘s instagram. i have been influenced. consider me influenced. i will never ever afford them, but a girl can still swoon.
  9. oh i want this kaneko isao sweatshirt, which matches the floral print on my ultimate dream jumper dress.
  10. so glossier launched an exfoliating toner, which i’m sure you are aware of because every single blog and magazine did a review of it. i’m curious how it compares to the ultra pricey lotion p50, i shall report back once i’ve tried it.
  11. lastly is a quick little valentine’s outfit from h&m: this red sweater, with this tan skirt over these stirrup leggings.

tres organeasy.

tres organeasy.
i’ve been on a real organization kick lately. suddenly my house seems incredibly cluttered, and i feel the need to remedy that. i have to admit that i’ve always been a person who keeps things tidy on the outside, but behind closed drawers, closets & cabinets, not so much. i tend to get overwhelmed by stuff, so i either stuff it into a drawer or tub or box and stash it away, or i get ultra flustered and start throwing everything into boxes to take to the thrift store to donate. this usually involves a combination of pms, lack of time, and too much coffee, and is often followed by regret. so, this year, i’ve decided to be more careful and patient. because i’m a grown up. one who should appreciate the hard work that went into finding 3 different versions of the same vintage linen saffron yellow dress, but also understands that i don’t actually need 6 different pairs of reading glasses. one who gets the necessity of having 3 different cast iron skillets, but also knows that a full set of vintage corningware (gravy boat included) is not so necessary. one who appreciates the subtle nuances in the varying shades of 12 different red lipsticks, but who also knows that crusty sample packets of designer face creams should be thrown out after a certain number of years.
lately i’ve come across some pretty bomb ass pieces of furniture and items for organization and i thought i’d share them with the world. if you are looking, here they are:
  1. i feel like if you have kids, baskets are the only sane way to go. they provide quick access and cleanup. i also use them to hold rolled up throw blankets, and pairs of walking shoes. i love these quilted ones from target, and these ones from ikea that are cheap & can be rolled down if you want to show something off or stash it underneath something.
  2. i’ve been looking for an affordable, small dresser to keep inside my closet. i love this pretty white & gold one from all modern, this beautiful vintage marble top one on etsy, and this simple little pine chest from ikea.
  3. for storage i am crazy about this vintage bamboo trunk, and this bench with drawers seems like a perfect piece for an entryway.
  4. for shoe storage i like this 2-tone cabinet, this little mid-century style cabinet with drawers, and this cool little cabinet from ikea that mounts to the wall.
  5. for inside of drawers these clear plastic trays are the best. i also like these clear medicine cabinet organizers, and these little woven trays are great for desk or shelf organizing.
  6. i just got these space saving multi clip hangers for skirts & pants, and they are pretty legit.
  7. last are mason jars, which are not just for holding jam or quick pickled veggies! they are also perfect for storing kitchen dry goods or bathroom items like q-tips or cotton rounds.

january covet.

january covet.
january! a new year! clean slate! peace out 2017, you were the worst! the literal, actual worst. i’m ready for a fresh start. i, like, gwenyth paltrow, will be starting a detox diet of kale stems and golden milks and iv drips to recover from my epic peppermint bark hangover. gonna power through until i come out shiny and de-bloated. here’s my list for surviving the d.t.s., and all the pretty things that nobody bought me for christmas :(.
  1. holy crow i want a vintage rugby stripe sweatshirt with BENETTON stitched on the sleeve so bad it hurts. too bad they are all located in malaysia.
  2. a wool celine skirt feels like a most necessary item for surviving winter.
  3. every january i decide i need to start wearing a watch in order to be organized and up to the minute at all times. this gucci plexiglas one is sick as fuq, but this urban outfitters gold metal one is more realistic.
  4. underwear refresh for the new year seems right, and a little girdle action can’t hurt matters this january.
  5. balenciaga knife pumps are 40% off. maybe if i focus on the percentage i can forget about the dollar bills i do not have. cause these shoes are the kind of legit fabulous that lasts a lifetime.
  6. my hubs got me a little uv lamp that is supposed to make me happy because it is effing freezing cloudy crappy wintertime blues. i think it is succeeding at making me less bummy. but i could be tripping the light fantastic.
  7. feeling ready to pull the trigger on this dr. dennis gross c + collagen serum to brighten my dull winter skin.
  8. i am really not a bag person, but man o’ malley, i am crazy about this rachel comey bag that is on maje sale at need supply.
  9. want to try this extremely woo-woo v expensive mushroom hot cacao stuff to try to kick my sugar habit. i feel like gwenyth would approve.
  10. also this sun potion ashwagandha which is supposed to help with the blues/stress/depression/anxiety/energy/save the planet/attain world peace.
  11. i am still OBSESSED with these celine boots. can’t stop lurking on them. so hard.
  12. sure would like to get my hands on a many moons workbook this year.

december covet.
december. it’s coming on christmas, as they say. i am so not ready (but who ever is?). i’m in the thick of it. winter, that is. and you know what, it’s not even winter yet. but i feel it. i am already exhausted. and i full on have a sugar monkey on my back, compliments of the marketing geniuses at m&m headquarters who decided that a whole new line of holiday flavors was necessary. i am going to fight my urge to bury myself under a mountain of blankets by dreaming of pretty, frivolous things. here they come:
  1. i am no scorpio, but i can still appreciate this velvet rhinestone bodysuit. whole-heartedly.
  2. i have been wanting to read joan juliet buck’s memoir the price of illusion since courtney love recommended it on instagram. it feels like a good december read.
  3. nothing like an enormous plaid scarf to hide behind. thank goodness (or demna gvasalia or phoebe philo?) for the wearable blanket trend because it is cold as fuq.
  4. speaking of plaid, this dries van noten slip dress is quite great.
  5. as is this j.crew ruffle top in bright red festive tartan. because i’m all about festivity. festiveness. being festive. whatever. can’t get enough plaid in my life!
  6. also can’t get enough cinnamon honey in my life.
  7. feeling pretty pinafore obsessed these days. i’m currently hung up on this alexa chung button front one, and this v front ganni one. it’s a toss up. a real fashion pickle.
  8. really excited that the ordinary will be sold at sephora starting this month. three cheers for affordable solutions to all the skin situations. because there are many!
  9. hoping santa will bring me this lancome gift set, which includes my v v favorite liquid eyeliner and v v favorite mascara for about half the price. and nobody loves a bargain like santy clause!
  10. this clear plastic raincoat feels so right to me. i hate rain and i also hate wasting a perfectly cute outfit by covering it with a dumb dumb coat. problem solved!
  11. these fur lined rain boots are the sweetest thing.

the blackest of fridays.

the blackest of fridays.
as you well know, dear reader, black friday is approaching. while the idea of it fills me with my fair share of exhaustion, i must admit there are some things that i desire. at a discount. here are 10 desirous items that are sure to be on sale come next friday.
  1. browns is one of my favorite sites to look over, although just about everything is way, way-way out of my price range. they do always have fairly killer sales, and i’m super in love with this pink plastic raincoat from proenza schouler, so here is hoping for a big fat discount.
  2. this little puff shoulder tinsel wrap dress from topshop is thee perfect holiday party dress.
  3. i believe these velvet over the knee boots from mango to be the perfect pair. heel height looks highly walkable, and gray goes with everything.
  4. really considering a little hand clothing steamer, because ironing is the worst, kid! amazon is usually good for gadget sales.
  5. hoping net-a-porter doesn’t disappoint this year, so that i can own this byredo burning rose candle.
  6. flannel jammies feel really necessary all the sudden. these j.crew guys look perfect. last year the crew was 40% off everything for black friday.
  7. this asymmetric plaid dress from a.w.a.k.e. is the stuff dreams are made of. hoping matches kicks up the percentage off the sale section this year.
  8. i am coo-coo-crazy about these tricolor heels from creatures of comfort (which can, like most things, be traced back to ysl). need supply will be giving 20% off this year.
  9. i’ve been petting these round pintuck pillows at urban outfitters for months. i heard tell everything will be buy one, get one 50% off for black friday.
  10. lastly, glossier is going 20% off everything and free shipping for black friday. i’ve got my eye on the boy brow & haloscope duo.
