fall dreaming.

fall dreaming.
so, i’m doing my very best to enjoy september this year, and the last few days of summer. i’ve been trying to spend a little time soaking up the sun every day before it disappears into an actual fog. but i can’t deny the little pangs of excitement that i’m feeling about fall. additionally i feel like i need an entirely new wardrobe, to go along with the new season. you understand. here is my dream fall wardrobe. in case you were wondering.
  1. reading an article called “no, hillary clinton should not shut the fuck up and go away” filled me with the desire to wear this sweatshirt every day. solidarity.
  2. my j.crew phase continues, due in large part to this 1984 rugby shirt (which i’m pretty sure i had in 1984), these faux army pants (that remind me of the actual army pants that i wore throughout high school), and this vintage j. crew cardigan that is lined in plaid flannel (like somebody took kurt cobain’s pajamas and lined his sweater with them).
  3. this rachel comey velvet swimsuit/bodysuit is effing gorgeous.
  4. maryam nassir zadeh’s spring 2018 collection blew my mind this week. been seeing so much electric lime green at fashion week and feeling like these mules are where it’s at.
  5. these raey jeans have been all up in my cyber space lately and at first glance i found them ugly for their late 90’s-ness, but after seeing them repeatedly on various fashion girls i feel like i need to have them. that my friends is effective marketing for the modern age.
  6. little house on the prairie micro florals were also abound at fashion week, perhaps most beautifully at brock collection. i’m kind of obsessed with vintage laura ashley dresses right now, like this floral one (another sleeveless option here) and this ultra rare plaid dress which is v v twin peaks.
  7. i want to wear these sky blue glitter socks with red shoes a la dorothy.
  8. it’s a lil’ bit painful how bad i want these attico velvet ankle cuffs. so, so bad.
  9. if you happen to be a size 8 please buy these beautiful green suede isabel marant boots which are 57% off and perfection or these rachel comey ankle boots which are 60% off and also perfection.
  10. really loving cocoa brown lately, especially this creatures of comfort skirt which would be beautiful worn with a bright teal/turquoise top like this awesome vintage bedazzled one.

the end.

september covet.

september covet.
september is my favorite month. i feel like it’s the best of both worlds, because you get the last days of summer, where you try to enjoy every minute of hotness while it lasts, and the first little glimpses of fall. but the romantic fall: the crisp light and the slight chill in the air and the first little bins of baby pumpkins at the grocery store without the crappy weather and sugar overload/bloat of the tail end of fall. i’m feeling a little excited about being able to wear long sleeves and of course boots again, and i’m going to do my best to really soak in the september-y goodness this year. here’s my list for the month.
  1. did you hear that american apparel is back? gen xers rejoice!
  2. i’m feeling like i NEED a vintage missoni paneled skirt to be complete. as a woman.
  3. cannot wait for sweatshirt weather to come back.
  4. bruce springsteen’s the river is kinda the ultimate september record to me. perfect for hot indian summer afternoons and those lonesome dark nights where fall creeps in with a coolness.
  5. tough to put into words how excited i am for the release of patti smith’s new book this month.
  6. really feeling like a berry lip and cheek stain is in order for pre-fall. fat and the moon things are all good things.
  7. little retro jelly bags make my inner 80’s pre-teen do a little tiffany heel-slide dance.
  8. i am really a fan of credit card holders vs wallets because they fit into pockets when i want to free-ball it and not carry a bag. this silver ysl one gave me actual butterflies in my actual stomach when i saw it. but holy $$.
  9. oh man i want this silk sailor top from l’ecole des des femmes which is cute as shit man! also 40% off!
  10. speaking of my inner 80’s pre-teen, i want studded jeans and studded shoes in my life again. it’s time, you guys. let’s bedazzle the feck out of everything.
  11. also glitter socks.
  12. i have been internet stalking this pair of celine boots for months. i keep trying to find a way that my eyes don’t see them as utter boot perfection but alas! still perfect to my eyes.
  13. i am so sick of the frankie shop and all of their cool ass shit which is really not affordable and yet ALWAYS sold out even though they keep lying to us all and saying “back in stock” which i think is just a marketing ploy to make me want everything more. especially this ivory linen dress with phantom neck buttons which i want THE MOST.

august covet.

august covet.
well friends, it’s august.
well friends, it’s august!
…and i’m doing my best not to let all the whispers of “summer’s almost over” get to me, although i can’t deny the little pangs of fall excitement that are creeping in. yesterday i actually celebrated over a brief rain shower, which i did not think could happen in this year of endless rain, but there i was praising it. i’ve also had a few moments of thinking about turtlenecks and jeans, which are both fully out of the question in the near 100 degree heat of late. with that, here is my list of lovely items for august.
  1. my tarot deck collection is really needing this amazing serpentfire deck, which features stevie nicks on the page of pentacles and is etched in gold.
  2. recently bought this little straw boater hat from asos (because i can’t find nor could i afford the celine version). i added a little black neck/chin strap to it and plan on wearing on adventures like georgia o’keefe.
  3. i bought this hair mask at whole foods for $3, and it honestly is the best thing that ever happened to my hair. it transformed my crazy assed rats nest of fried straw back into real human hair again.
  4. so in love with milk makeup’s lip colors, and currently wanting this pink color (called gnarly) which is just a touch purple and powdery and v v 90’s.
  5. this gold turquoise claw ring is beyond gorgeous.
  6. coming up on a short vacation in palm springs and really not feeling bathing suit ready. considering this cleanse to drop a little of my prosecco/tortilla chip bloat.
  7. really can’t get enough of charles jourdan shoes from the 90’s, like these pretty raspberry colored mary janes.
  8. holy jacquemus, this top from h&m is gorgeous.
  9. really heart these vintage green adidas shorts.
  10. i have a giant fashion crush on new-ish label attico right now. these white mules are crazy good.
  11. i worry that elvis costello’s mighty like a rose might get overlooked in his discography, sandwiched in with so many crazy fantastic records. because this record is brilliant, recorded in hollywood it’s sort of like a dark side of so.cal beach boys americana delivered in that costello-esque biting english style. also that cover is perfection.
  12. frances may is one of my favorite shops to peruse, and wow this vase is beauty.
  13. mary miller’s collection of short stories always happy hour is next up on my reading list.
  14. this dvf white ribbon trimmed top is brilliant.
  15. last are these white painter jeans from bliss & mischief, which look just about perfect to my eyes.

going green.

going green.
if i see a piece of clothing and it’s available in emerald or kelly green, i tend to be overcome with the “gotta-have-its”. really nothing looks better to my eyes. emerald green seems to be having a bit of a moment because alls’a’sudden i see it everywhere. this makes me v v happy because it’s one of my v v favorite colors. obviously gucci has something to do with current state, as does vetements, and it seems the trickle down effect has taken hold because my eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the green. below are some of my all time favorite emerald moments.

and here are a few of the emerald items i am currently coveting:

  1. this vintage chinese top hurts my eyes it’s so pretty ($17).
  2. a sweet pair of prada green silk shorts ($155).
  3. this attico satin mini dress is way adorable ($236).
  4. but this creatures of comfort gathered dress is the one ($270).
  5. these vintage charles jourdan platforms are seriously amazing ($180).
  6. this emerald dress from the vampires wife is the stuff dreams are made of ($675).
  7. dries van noten metallic pumps please ($195).
  8. topshop has this cute little cold shoulder top ($50)
  9. that would look perfect with this dries van noten skirt ($232).
  10. really lusting after this creatures of comfort pajama style top ($295).
  11. these rosie assoulin silk slim pants are gorgeousness ($175).
  12. this vintage gianni versace silk rouched dress is beyond greatness ($175).
  13. zara just came out with these embroidered satin ankle boots which are fully killing me ($69).
  14. of course this gucci floral silk bag, if you have all the money ($1,513).
  15. but if you don’t this vintage bag is just perfect ($15).
  16. as is this little vintage green straw bag ($45).

july covet.

july covet.
june has been pretty much non-stop terrible, with terrible on top of terrible and random curveballs of terrible being hurled from every direction. so i say let’s close the books on june. and anyways july is kind of a major month. i mean, it’s summer. people are generally pretty stoked on july. july is smack dab in the middle of peony season, which means giant buckets of beautiful pink and coral and white and purple ones everywhere. i can’t deny its appeal, although i have to say that september is my personal favorite month.  i can’t decide if i’m feeling less or more patriotic this year, considering the political state of the country, but i can pretty much assume that we’ll spend yet another forth of july hiding out in our house from all of the drunken idiots setting of fireworks in the streets. hope all y’alls are lighting things on fire and toasting the america in your hearts. here is my list for july.
  1. plastic heels are still an object of obsession for me, maybe it’s fond memories from the plastic kiddie supermarket heels that my grandmother bought me when i was a little girl, but i can’t get enough of them. these beauties from dries van noten in amazing emerald green are killing me ($335). as are these crazy cool blue wedges by margiela on ebay ($185). and these sweet little golden vintage honies which are much closer to my price point these days ($35).
  2. i’m feeling like peach one piece swimsuits with ruffles are where it’s at this summer. like this radical high cut one from hunza g x pandora sykes ($156), this adorable vintage one ($89), or this major cutie by samantha pleet ($149).
  3. i still think wearing flower crown headbands ($45) with bathing suits is cool. blame esther williams.
  4. i’ve been dreaming about this bamboo chair with martinique print cushions from modernhaus forever ($625). it’s so g.dang dreamy.
  5. i’ve also been dreaming about getting one of these cool round felted white rugs ($248) forever, but i have a toddler. the days of beautiful furniture and rugs are over.
  6. i’m a sucker for glowy primers, but this nars one ($36) is also spf 35 which is 5 spfs more than my tinted moisturizer. feels like i’m taking care of important things while trying to look sparkly.
  7. sale season is tough b/c i really want all the things. but i feel like a crochet dress with fringe is maje for summer. like this striped macrame dress from jaline which is 60% off ($180). or this amazing octavia dress from ulla johnson which is over on the real real ($122.50). or this ultimate number one best dress from celine ($1645) which i will likely never ever see in person let alone touch with my own hands.
  8. so maybe a crochet hand towel instead? ($14 for 2!)
  9. how cute is this vintage pie plate with a strawberry pie recipe on it? cute as pie. ($10).

the end.

suit up!

suit up!

for reasons unknown to me, i am a swimsuit fanatic. perhaps it is due to being born in early august, but my entire life i’ve collected swimsuits like people collect basic sweaters or sensible shoes. my parents often tell the story of when i was 4 years old and in the middle of a snowstorm as they were shoveling out the driveway, i ran outside wearing only an orange bikini. i still remember that bikini to this day, it had a halter top with long strings that tied at the back of the neck and it was 70’s tupperware orange. i looked for any opportunity to put it on, including sneaking it on at bath time or while my parents were out shoveling snow, apparently. every year when swimsuit season comes i have to sit on my hands to keep from buying yet another swimsuit. i usually fail and end up with at least one new swimsuit per year. here are a dozen that i am loving this year.

  1. h&m just put out this adorable white striped one piece ($29), just make sure to size way the eff up.
  2. i am a maje sucker for all things nautical, especially swimsuits, and these little sailor shorts ($38) are too cute with this red & white polka dot top that ties in the back ($44).
  3. speaking of too cute nautical swimsuits this modcloth one piece is a killer ($79).
  4. really into the high neck swimsuit thing that is happening right now, this black & white anthro one even looks like it has boob support ($195).
  5. this j.crew high neck one piece has the cutest little neck bow, but looks like it has no boob support so if you’re tiny on top or never had a baby, get into it ($98).
  6. marysia swimsuits are everywhere this year, i super dig their scallop hem suits like this palm springs top ($150) & high waist bottoms ($148).
  7. this baserange fire red suit with boy shorts and t-shirt top is way cool ($160).
  8. the lisa marie fernandez one shoulder swimsuit now comes in white polka dot ($480). swoony swoon swoon. also really looks like it would hold all the mom giggly-ness in place, which is worth dat $$$.
  9. this maryam nassir zadeh tie front one piece holds really nothing in place but dang she fine ($288).
  10. same with this crazy stupid adorable hunza g x pandora sykes frill bikini ($155). one size fits a select few.
  11. old navy has this black ruffled one shoulder one piece ($39). it’s the clear choice for moms who can’t afford lisa marie fernandez but still want to look chic while reaping the benefits of interior gripper tape and the magical slimming properties of the color black.
  12. lastly from the queen of ruffles johanna ortiz is this insanely beautiful gorgeous work of art moon light bikini top ($355) and high waist ruched bottoms ($150).

june covet

june covet

june! holy cats holy cow. i don’t even know, you guys, how it is already june. i really do not have that summer feeling, the days have been foggy and windy and rather assy. even memorial day was overcast and hot dog free. also i feel like the sales this year were not as awesome as years past. but enough complaining, i’m ready for dresses and skirts and sandals and all the rest. here’s a list of pretty things that i can’t afford to buy, but i sure hope that you can!

  1. nobody does a poppy red like creatures of comfort and this robbie dress is the sweetest thing.
  2. really going through a huge guy laroche phase right now, and thinking about starting up a guy laroche appreciation society to go along with my isaac mizrahi and dries van noten and simon porte jacquemus appreciation societies. also this t-shirt is bad ass.
  3. this acid washed denim suspender skirt would look perfect over that guy laroche t-shirt. just sayin.
  4. speaking of dries, look at these beautiful simple little slides.
  5. the big moda operandi sale happened, and lucky for you there is one of these stella jean one shoulder dresses left.
  6. i’m really wanting one of these straw banana leaf pouf thingys.
  7. these little camisoles make my inner 90’s teenager so happy. of course i would only wear them under dresses because i am no longer an actual teenager.
  8. dresses like this beautiful v neck peplum dress by tome!
  9. dying to try this dew drops coconut gel highlighter from marc jacobs.
  10. this vintage yellow dress from guy laroche is “everything”, as the kids would say.
  11. i heart these vintage silver woven slingbacks.
  12. been meaning to try dry brushing for all of the good reasons (but mostly for cellulite) for ages.
  13. this ceramic pitcher is gorgeous.
  14. finally a clare v bag i can afford!
  15. really hoping to do the many moons workbook this year.
