vintage modern: indian gauze dress

in my book there is nothing lovelier than an indian cotton dress. my hippie mother wore these when i was a baby and i have always been drawn to the pretty floral paisley prints and soft gauze fabric. these dresses are sort of the holy grail of vintage. you can never, ever find one in a thrift store. they are rarely spotted in vintage shops, and should you find one, they typically run upwards of $150.

thea’s vintage seems to always have one or two, like this beauty, for $164.

spanish moss also typically has a few, like this black version for $158.

recently, at long last, this style of dress has trickled down so that the masses can afford them.

topshop has this folklore print dress for $72.

H&M has a couple of their own, like this cotton maxi dress for $34.95 and this patterned dress for $39.95.

forever 21 has just rolled out a few options. this tunic style dress is $22.80 and this shift dress is $19.80.
